Early College Experience |

Students have been following a college bound art foundations curiculum that the University of Connecticut provides for 3 college credits. Students must have had at least two art courses during their high school years and have a GPA 3.0 to be accepted into this course at Parish Hill. The year's work consists of black and white observational studies of still life, landscape, portrait drawings using a variety of materials such as varyind degrees fof graphite, charcoal, India ink anad washes. Concentration is on compositiion organization using the elements and principles of design.Use of a variious lines such as contour, gesture, and expressionistic line, shading to create voumetric images and perspectivw work with a focus on foreground, middle ground and background placement of imagery. Students keep a visual journal where they work on the practice of studying line, shape and placement of a wide selection of subject matter that is illustrated from direct observation. Students meet with the teacher for 1/2 year and end of the year review. Class and one on one critiques, written evaluations, rubrics, and portfolios both standard and digital are presented at the end of the year. Students recently had their portfolios viewed by the University of Connecticut site coordinator , Cora Lynn Ceibler, Professor of Illustration. She was very impressed with the caliber of our student's works, mature presentations of works with inclusion of artist statement, written evaluations, and digital portfolio completion. |
