Graduation Requirements |

Twenty-two credits are required for graduation. A student
must acquire 17 of the required credits in the following areas in order
to receive a diploma from Parish Hill High School. |

Credits in high school are assigned on the basis of meeting
times per week. Courses meeting five times (or the equivalent) per week
receive one credit. Courses which meet less than that receive .2 of the
equivalent credits per period. |

Credits earned in Middle School are recorded on a student's
cumulative record but do not count toward high school graduation requirements. |

|
| |
Alternative courses or programs must be approved by the principal
prior to implementation if the student is to receive credits toward graduation,
or if the program requires time to be missed from the normal school day. |

Performance Standards for Graduation (Basic Skills)
Prior to the end of senior year a student must demonstrate the performance standard by:
- Language Arts
- Achieve a level 3 or above score on either the reading or writing sections of CAPT or
- Achieve a score of 500 or better on the Verbal SAT or
- Write an essay responding to an in class assignment and earn a score of 8 or better using a CAPT Language Arts rubric or
- Complete a class assigned research paper and achieve a minimum score of 80% or better using a school-wide rubric.
- Math
- Achieve a level 3 or above score on CAPT Mathematics or
- Achieve a score of 500 or better on SAT or
- Obtain a score of 70% or better on a CAPT like math assessment.
- Computer Technology
- Student must meet or exceed competency on each of three standards (see rubric below)
- Word processing and desktop layout.
- Inadequate – Inconsistent or unclear page layout. Inconsistent use of less than 4 of the following tools. Formatting, copy and pasting, varied font sizes, page numbering, works cited and parenthetical documentation as illustrated in the writing handbook.
- Competency Met – A clearly organized multi-page document with consistent use of at least 4 of the following. Formatting, copy and pasting, varied font sizes, page numbering, works cited and parenthetical documentation as illustrated in the writing handbook.
- Commendable – Command of more than 4 layout tools as demonstrated in a newsletter or multi-column brochure, or other complex document.
- Electronic research using internet and data bases.
- Inadequate – Insufficient data used for conclusions. Use of less than 5 electronic sources. Data is poorly chosen and fails to support conclusions.
- Competency Met – Demonstrates the use of at least 5 reliable electronic resources. Research is documented through proper notes and references. Data supports conclusions.
- Commendable – Extensive use of advanced internet features. Extended correspondence with renowned or on site experts, information reflecting diverse global view points.
- Text and Graphic Integration. Can link text and graphic elements to communicate effectively in clearly designed word processor or desktop published document(s).
- Inadequate – Graphics are not complete, inaccurate, or do not help to communicate information from text.
- Competency Met – Illustrations, diagrams, graphs or charts help to communicate information from or in addition to text. Graphics are clear accurate and complete.
- Commendable – Integrates scanned, imported, or original illustrations that are clear accurate and supportive of text, in addition to other graphic illustrations. Graphics demonstrate a command of at least 3 different types of graphics included in a word or desktop document.
